Dior 2012 Show, a reverance to the past, a nod to the future, this is the Mayfair dress with a lacquer belt from the Dior collection 1954/55. I talked about the inspiration for this collection, a hommage to Monsieur Christian Dior.
Raf Simons’ understanding of the lines of the New Look collection is very evident, his interpretation, giving this collection a certain restraint with his design gestures, interpreting each Look in a very modern way.
Just as we are a new generation of women who are experiencing a new change of thinking, Raf Simons, by taking the essential shapes and forms from the past, is leading us into a present, that allows us to interpret his collection for our Look and lives in our time.
I have looked back at the New Look collection, and found some of the photos. In their own way they look very modern. Yet the inspiration to the Dior Collection 2012 is there.
Especially the inspiration of the “Bar suit” by Christian Dior in 1954, was very apparent in the line of Raf Simons Dior 2012 collection.

An overemphasized very narrow waist, wide hips, accentuated with pockets, the flowing wide skirt. In its time, a pure elegant Look, that took inspiration from the French Court dressing of the 1700 - 1750. A corseted Look with a petticoat, or Mantua, that gave a wider round look around the hips.
Raf Simons interpreted this with a short top and skinny black pants in his collection, the pockets, the wide hips, with pointed shoes, to extend the line.
