A Celebration of Mid Century Modern, Modernism Week 2016 Palm Springs. The excitement of things to come was in the air. A week filled with Events, Show Homes, Lectures, Home Tours, Vintage dresses and cars, Set design from the TV series Mad Men, Lounges, Discovery and a Connection to the Past that reaches well to the Future.
When I first saw this year’s CAMP Lounge, I was thrilled that the location, an early Mid Century Building built in 1958, the former Robinson’s Department store, in the heart of Palm Springs, was available to celebrate the Mid-Century lifestyle. Adjacent to the PS Art Museum Architecture and Design Center, it was the hub to depart for the whirlwind of MW Events in 2016.
My days at CAMP and other venues were filled with talks, lectures, conversations, and moments of Nostalgia. Often, I sat down at the Elle Décor Lounge to exhale, or on the brightly colored chairs in front of the Ferguson Lounge, to join other design aficionados for a glas of Prosecco and a chat. Well after sunset, a fire was lit in the modern circular fire place, for a different more “primal” Camp vibe. Very relaxing!
The many bus tours departed from CAMP in the morning, to highlight the homes and other buildings that have become some of the jewels of architecture in the desert.
Modernism Week is my educational playground. For one week each year, I get a glimpse of another Palm Springs. I get awed, I connect with the vision of a time, when architects conceptualized and realized a lifestyle here in the desert that is as modern and timeless, as when it was planned in the early 1960s.
More on my impressions of Modernism Week 2016 in my next posts. Get motivated to join me at Modernism Week Palm Springs in 2017!
Enjoy,
