It is Viva Espana! at Saks El Paseo, with a vibrant homage to the late Oscar de la Renta, by Peter Copping. So many elements of a Spanish Spring, invited me in at SFA.
Peter Copping said, "... I wanted to capture Oscar's Joie de Vivre, his Hispanic origin, the time when Oscar lived in Spain and worked with Balenciaga." I think he captured this spirit beautifully with his Spring 2016 collection. A difficult thing to do, after the passing of Mr. De la Renta.
The vibrant colors, as if I had looked toward the sun, and colors started dancing, reminded me of La Corrida, Spanish Tapas, a drive through the country side on Mallorca, in the late afternoon sun. The Luxe fabrics, Peau de Soie, Taffetas, Tulle, Lace, Sequins, Bead Embroidery, elevate this collection, so Haute Couture.
The design inspiration of this Marigold Flower print dress is a classic Balenciaga silhouette, 60s style A line, with a gentle tuck at the waist. I added a photo of designs, I think inspired this dress.
The Vermillion Knit/Tulle dress is my FAV for this group. It would be my choice for an event at the Art Museum Palm Springs or a book launch. It is playful, young, perfectly wrapping my curves.
I would pair this Look with the fabulous fun red pumps by Prada, the medallion with the blush and red jewels seems plucked right from the Bolero of a Bull fighter. With the fun Gotham flower clutch by Nancy Gonzales in aqua. The woven Bulu clutch by Eric Javits with bambou accent reminded me of Mallorca, perfect for a Spring day. See it in my curated Looks below.
For the Marigold flower dress, I would choose the Prada pumps in Gold with the amber and golden jewels rosette. My choice of clutch would be either the Eddie Parker golden clutch or in the day time, the Bulu by Eric Javits.
I think Peter Copping created not only a colorful Spring collection of dresses and gowns for us to enjoy, he channeled the inspiration and vision of Oscar de la Renta and Balenciaga. The vintage feel of these dresses allows us to be playful and feminine. Just what we want for a resurgence of bright Spring colors here in the desert.
Enjoy,
Jasmin
