At the Hotel Diplomat in New Delhi The Diplomat Hotel with the Olive Restaurant. New Delhi, Connaught Place, a brush with History.
More to see after a trip to the market and Old Delhi, we go back to Connaught Place, to Diplomat Circle, with all the big old and new hotels and Embassies in different architectural styles. We go to a large white villa, that could be located in New Orleans, with french iron works, the Diplomat hotel, to the other Olive restaurant, for lunch.
Incredible, we leave the hustle and bustle of India behind and are transported to another quiet outdoor garden setting in white, with elegant table settings, we enjoy a brief walk in the outdoor area , this could be Miami if I squint and blink.
Next stop, on to the famous Imperial Hotel, not too far away. We came especially to see the gardens and for the history of this famous hotel. We go inside for tea and a glimpse of history.
This was the place to be during the Raj, when the British were still present in India.
We walk through the lobby, on along the picture gallery, now a snapshot in time. The aura of history is still palpable. I wish I could have been here for some of the events. This was also the time when India’s states came come together to form a new country. A time of turmoil and new exciting beginnings. We sit in the restaurant have tea, feel the nostalgia, the sense of history, the conversations that have taken place…
Enjoy,
Jasmin
