We booked a 2 day sight seeing tour by private car, a classic Ambassador Grand. What a treat!

Step back into the 1950s. The white cotton seat covers, the soft rounded shape of the car body reminds me of a top hat. The fleet of Ambassador Grand cars at the Government House area in New Delhi.

I remember seeing pictures of Princess Margret, the Queen's sister, chauffeured in India in an Ambassador Grand, I feel just like a princess myself, ready to wave at any moment, when we stop at a red light and some locals take a peek at the inside of the car.

We tour the usual sites for 1st time visitors to Delhi. Government House, the famous India Gate, are quite impressive, the whole area around Government House is so huge, the plaza, the avenue leading up to it. This is where many parades were held.

India Gate sits like the Arc de Triomphe in Paris at the beginning of the avenue.

You can just glimpse India Gate in the distance at the end of the yellow line.

Government House is so grand, building on a gigantic scale.

Later we are driven to the area around the Imperial Hotel. Diplomatic Circle.

We take a stroll along the arcades at Connaught Place. This area is so full of history, some of the bloody history before the independence in 1947.  We will be back to Connaught Place to see more and to have lunch at the Diplomat Hotel's fun restaurant, The Olive. See the photos of The Olive on my next post.
