Chanel shows pink ruffles and blue Tweed for Spring 2013 at Saks 5th Avenue El Paseo in Palm Desert. Very short or longer skirts and details inspired by 80s fashion, while at the same time reminiscent of the fashions of the late1800s.
The Spring 2013 collection has an ephemeral soft and surreal Look, while also a conservative dark Look. The Theme was “Printemps Precieux”, or Precious Spring time, inspired by Coco Chanel herself.
This is a collection inspired by romantic themes, 18th Century thoughts, an artificial park setting with trees and foliage was created to evoke a forest. We see pastel colors, pink, powder blue, and Crème colored silk organza ruffles, feathers, fringe and Tweed. Often in contrast, shimmery white and silvery organza is draped over the shoulders, on Tweed jackets in dark charcol or midnight blue. The Look makes women appear to be an exotic bird.
The ruffles are created with ribbons of silk organza, a craft that is dying out. Chanel has made it a priority for some time, to support some crafts in Haute Couture to keep them alive.
This collection had a stark feeling, despite the romantic theme.
So in a way, the pink ruffles, fringe and gleaming spun silk reminds the viewer of an exotic species almost as extinct as the crafts who created such a dream of beauty and elegance.
Enjoy,
Jasmin
