Saks 5th Avenue El Paseo showed Oscar de la Renta Couture for Spring 2015 at a special event. This vignette was surely a touching homage to the designer. The dreamy fairy dresses show a Paris Couture almost Givenchy inspired collection that definitely take the Oscar de la Renta brand into the new Present after Mr. De la Renta is gone.
I was thrilled to see and touch these dresses, the finesse of design, the craftsmanship of the sheer fabrics with their delicate appliqués and metal threads, or the mesh almost sculpted like a Toile around a bodice of silk. Clearly, the Luxe vision of Mr. De La Renta lives on.
Peter Copping, new creative director for the design team had only a very brief time consulting with Mr. De La Renta, but his aesthetic vision seems a seamless fit with the new design team. As one of the design studio's members said: "... the new collection seems to be one of seamless continuity. A collection that was entirely Oscar. "
This collection makes women feel beautiful, it has the De la Renta Luxe magic, yet it shows a younger, modern, new attitude that is perfect for new beginnings in the Spring. Seamless continuity paired with a commercially viable vision for the future, one that resonates with a younger worldwide clientele, is indeed the challenge of the moment.
A stunning modern collection that we can cheer about would bring that famous twinkle into Oscar's eyes and a smile on his face. I can almost hear him say again: "...The great thing about fashion is that it always looks forward..."
