The upcoming sale of Ms Bacall’s prized possessions and jewelry will happen at the prestigious auction house Bonhams, Fine Art Auctioneers & Valuers, in New York.
It was a joy to discover some select pieces of jewelry and valued objects d’Art from her collection. A selection of her items is currently on display and will be available for sale at the auction on March 31 and April 1, 2015.
The choices for her “compilation” reflects the allure of the lady herself. Certain items are a reflection of their time while others are timeless. The jewelry collection is as multifaceted as the actress herself, with vintage pieces merged with those by well-known designers.
The Estate Sale features bracelets, necklaces, pins, and ear jewelry. She also collected ethnic styles, possibly from her own travel adventures, including pieces from Egypt and India. Of course, she also received gifts of personal significance, others were created specially for her to celebrate events in her life.
The highlight of the auction clearly is jewelry by renowned names such as Tiffany, Chanel, and Cartier. A blue enamel on gold bangle and a pair of woven ropework gold bracelets by Jean Schlumberger for Tiffany, reflect the aesthetic of the late 1960s.
I was surprised to spot a rather curious ring, with Turquoise and an enormous Amethyst that only a Leading Lady could pull off.
The decorative art objects, sculptures, prints and paintings in the sale adorned her New York apartment or her home and brought joy to her life. This auction offers a subtle glimpse into her world. The pieces that graced her body helped define her image, now they are symbols of her life.
If you are in New York, take this opportunity to preview the items up for auction. You might get swept away to bid. Maybe you will be lucky and acquire a cherished piece of Lauren Bacall’s collection.
