How an olive in a Martini glass created magic and brought a sparkle to my eyes. When I had a Martini recently, a little bit of magic unfolded. When I swirled the glass, bubbles surfaced, as I watched the olive swirl, memories of another fun party came into my thoughts.
I remembered our New Year’s Party just last December. It seems there is something special about the last day of the year. A certain melancholy creeps into our thoughts. May be some regret about all the things we didn’t do in the months passed yet, we feel excited about the New Year with the promise of opportunity. With Covid restrictions, we only invited as many friends as we could seat on a few chairs. It created quite an intimate feeling.
A certain suave buzz filled the home. We danced to a 60s playlist. Frank Sinatra was transporting us back to Palm Springs, when Glamour was Modern.
I sipped on my Martini, as we sat on our blue Saarinnen chairs and chatted. Surrounded by white, grey and silver accent décor, the scent of deep red roses in a low glass vase filled the air. My husband gave me a certain glance. He put his arm around my waist soon we swayed with the music.
Tony Bennett’s smooth voice felt like a caress over my shoulder. The mood was Glamour in Red, White and Black. I had placed lot’s of silver bowls filled with tidbits on the table, white candles, small bites, smoked salmon Canapés, seared tuna on cucumber slices, Cranberry Vodka cocktails … ice cold Vodka Citron in slim shooter glasses, Bubbly, and Rosé.
As the night progressed, much later, close to midnight we moved outside to the patio to dance under the stars. Suddenly, the sky lit up. Fireworks streaked across the air, white Chrysanthemum star fireworks unfolded.
We watched in awe as yet another new rocket shot up into the nighttime sky. The show ended with a golden rain fireworks display that showered us with good luck.
When it was over we kissed, full of joy, as this magic moment lingered.
As I remembered that night, a smile brightened my face, the olive still circling in my glass, I felt so lucky to relive the magic of this party.
Cheers, have a Martini with a very large olive and start dreaming…
Best,
Jasmin
